Balancing foods that support heart health with flavors that feed our soul is the way to go. Here’s why all macronutrients are essential for a well-rounded diet:
- Carbohydrates: Provide sustained energy for your daily activities.
- Healthy Fats: Essential for heart health and nutrient absorption.
- Proteins: Vital for tissue repair and muscle maintenance.
Balancing these components supports overall health and keeps you full longer. If you find yourself hungry after meals, you might need more balance. Here are some tips to add “staying power” to your meals:
- Salad: Add protein (tuna, chicken, beans), carbs (whole grain crackers, bread), and fat (olive oil, avocado).
- Fruit: Add protein (yogurt), carbs (granola, muffin), and fat (peanut/almond butter).
- Turkey: Add carbs (sourdough bread, whole grain pita) and fat (cheese).
June 4th was National Cheese Day! Even though we missed it, let's embrace cheese as part of a balanced meal. Imagine pizza: whole-grain crust for fiber, cheese for fats, lean meats for protein, and a rainbow of veggies.
